Local workshops in Kenya

Between 13th and 18th of June 2016 local workshops were conducted in Nairobi, Kenya as part of the project Active for future. VACK (Volunteer Action for Change Kenya) performed 6 local workshops, which were led by youth workers, with the intention to develop skills, knowledge and abilities of the youth, so that they can increase their chances for employment through so called youth initiatives.
Youth workers that implemented local workshops attended training on this topic in May 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya, where they gained new skills and knowledge for support in developing youth initiatives. As part of local workshops this knowledge was upgraded and adjusted according to the local needs of the youth.
In the first workshop participants introduced themselves, presented their expectations and doubts, youth workers introduced the concept of training and the meaning of youth initiative. Through workshops they gained and upgraded the knowledge of communication, public speaking, social skills, project management, developing business idea, financial and administrative work, … Workshops were also attended by representatives of youth and agricultural department, where in group discussion participants learned more about the development of a business plan, possibilities of financing and supporting youth initiatives by the government. In the end of each workshop they evaluated learning effects, observations, results and defined next steps.
Then, the participants developed their ideas into a business plan, they elaborated and improved them with the help of youth workers and presented them to the group. Presented youth initiative will be performed in the following months by the help of local organization VACK.
